Ní
neart go cur le chéile (Irish
Proverb)
The real strength
is the strength of togetherness
Consider
this......
- The
Irish Ursuline Sisters have been working
in some of the most remote areas of Kenya
since 1957.
- At
present Irish and Kenyan Ursulines focus
their energies on education, health care
and pastoral services.
-
As the Irish presence diminishes, the kenyan
Ursuline sisters are trained and ready to
continue the work.
- The
purpose of this appeal is to ensure that
the Kenyan Ursuline sisters will have sufficient
resources to enable them to help their own
people help themselves.
- We
have set a target of €1,000,000 over the
next five years.
Kenya ........The Facts
- The
population is 31,293,000
-
16 million are under 18 years of age
-
8 million (27%) of the population live on
less than €1 a day.
Education
- There
is a pressing need for quality Primary Education
-
80% have no access to second level education.
-
One out of every four women is without basic
literary skills.
Health
- AIDS
causes 500 deaths per week in Kenya
-
890,000 children have been orphaned by AIDS
-
43% of the population do not have access
to safe water
-
Malaria is still the cause of death
-
What Europeans spend in a year on ice cream
could solve Kenya's water problems.
-
Approximately 150 will educate a Kenyan
child for a year.
