Celebrating 250 years of Ursulines in Ireland

On Sunday 9th May, we celebrated 250 years of Ursuline life in Ireland as we marked the arrival of the first four Irish Ursuline Sisters – Eleanor Fitzsimons, Margaret Nagle, Elizabeth Coppinger and Mary Kavanagh who, accompanied by M. Margaret Kelly (Ursulines of Dieppe, France) sailed from Le Havre into the Port of Cork arriving on what was Ascension Thursday in 1771. Our Logo depicts the boat carrying the four sisters on their journey to make this new foundation. We give thanks to God and Saint Angela for accompanying us on this journey of 250 years which has seen Ursuline life move outwards across Ireland from Cork to Thurles, Waterford, Sligo, Dublin and Shannonbridge and across the seas to Guyana, Barbados, USA, Canada, Wales, and Kenya.
