Celebrating and praying for vocations in Cork and Ross

On Friday last the people, priests and religious of the Diocese of Cork and Ross gathered with Bishop John Buckley to celebrate consecrated life in the Diocese over the centuries.  Beginning with Saint Finbarr and Saint Fachtna in the 600′s the story was traced through to today – giving thanks for the past and celebrating the present.  The reflection was given by Andrew O’Connell (Communications Officer with the Presentation Brothers) entitled “looking to the future with hope”.

Each religious order was invited to bring forward a candle to mark their part in the story and the Ursulines were represented by Sr Mary Hourigan.  The time of prayer concluded with Bishop Buckley presenting seeds to a representative from each parish which will be planted in the Church grounds as a reminder that it is in families and parish communities that the seeds of vocation are sown and nurtured.

This celebration was organised by the Cork and Ross Pastoral Development Office where Sr Karen works as Coordinator.
