Celebrating with the Presentation Sisters: Venerable Nano Nagle

It was with great joy that the Presentation Sisters shared with us the good news that Nano Nagle was declared Venerable by Pope Francis on 31 October 2013.

To celebrate this joyous event we were delighted to join with the Presentation Sisters in their celebration on Presentation Day, 21 November 2013 in Cork City.

There was a Graveside Service at 11 a.m at South Presentation Courtyard, Douglas Street. An extract from the life of Nano Nagle by Bishop Coppinger of Cloyne 1794 was read followed by Nano’s Song (Chris Skinner). A tribute of Sister Ursula Kavanagh, one of the four founding Ursuline Sisters was read by Sr. Mary Mc Daid, Ursuline Sister, Blackrock, Cork. This was followed by quotations from Nano’s Letters and a Blessing with Holy Water, brought to a conclusion with the singing of the Salve Regina.

The Celebratory Mass was held at 12 noon in St. Finbarr’s South Church, Dunbar Street, Cork City followed by light refreshments nearby at the Flying Enterprise Complex, and the opportunity to undertake a Pilgrimage in Nano’s footsteps in the environs of the South Parish.

Today, we rejoice that Pope Francis and the Universal Church recognise Nano as a woman of heroic virtue .
