Memorial Service in Leeds Diocese for Sr Anne Conway

On the 27th September, Sr Barbara Burke and I had the privilege of attending an Ecumenical Service for Anne in Hinsley Hall, Leeds. The service brought alive for us, indeed for all present Angela’s words: “I am here in your midst with Jesus, my Love and yours.”

Anne was surely alive in our midst, as the service brought to life the great things she did for us and our world, as well as the little things that will always have a special place in our hearts; it brought alive, too, the happy times when we laughed together and those times when our hearts broke as one. We left for home carrying Anne in our hearts in an ever more deep and wonderful way.

We are deeply grateful to all who prepared the beautiful service; to Rev. Maureen Browell who led us in prayer and to so many of Anne’s dear friends and colleagues for their rich input .The inestimable value of Anne’s contribution to the Diocese of Leeds was acknowledged and deep gratitude expressed to the Irish Ursuline Union for missioning her there. Our special thanks go to Anne’s sister-in-law, Mary for her generosity and attentiveness during our stay.

The service concluded with a short quotation from Anne’s farewell message:

“My last word is to say, I love you all and love is eternal so let us continue to be united in this spirit.

Hope in the Lord!

Let us praise His name!

Hope in the Lord forever!”
