Shannonbridge: leave-taking and welcome

On Saturday  8th February Ursuline Sisters from across Ireland gathered with associates, companions, friends, local clergy and parishioners at Ard Chiarain in Shannonbridge as the Ursuline presence there comes to an end and a new chapter of life begins at the house with the arrival of Sisters of the Romanian Eastern Orthodox tradition.
We gave thanks for the living of the vision of Srs Maura and Ursula (RIP) which came to life there and has been lived by Srs Maura H, Kitty, Marie (RIP) and Margaret Mary over the intervening years near the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise. Each one brought their own gifts to the original vision creating a place of welcome to all who sought a place to pray, be still and reflect.
As we welcome three sisters from Romania who will make their home there in the words of Fr Tom Cox (PP Shannonbridge) “it’s quite exciting to see new life being brought by a sister Christian Church. The difference is not threatening and…in offering a welcome to new peoples…we see how we can be salt and light to new peoples.”  The house will now be known as “The Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring, Ard Chiarain”.
