Sr Ursula Clarke RIP

It is with deep sadness that the Ursuline Sisters announce the death of Sr Ursula Clarke of our Blackrock community in Cork where she has been a professed member of the community for 70 years.  Sr Ursula spent all but two years in Cork teaching English and French in both the Ursuline Secondary School, Blackrock and Saint Angela’s College, Patrick’s Hill.  The two years away from Cork saw her travel as a member of the founding group of the Brecon community in Wales.  During her life time Sr Ursula served the community as novice mistress, as school principal, as sacristan and as archivist and annalist.

Sr Ursula was the author of the book, The Ursulines in Cork, documenting the history of the the order in Ireland from 1771 when they came at the invitation of Nano Nagle to teach alongside her in Cork city to 2006 when a second edition of the book was published.

We give thanks for her faith-filled life lived with integrity and for her many gifts which she gave in service to the Ursuline Sisters in Ireland.

May she rest in peace.

Her remains will be reposing at the Ursuline Convent, Blackrock from 4:00pm on Saturday 20th June followed by Evening Prayer at 6:30pm.   Mass in thanksgiving for her life and ministry will be in the Parish Church in Blackrock on Sunday 21st June at 2:30pm followed by burial in the Convent cemetery.
