Visiting the Ursulines in Bratislava

Sr Patricia (Cabinteely community) and Sr Margaret Mary (Shannonbridge community) were on holiday recently in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. We knew there were Ursulines there and fortunately on the first day of the trip we went on a walking tour of the city…as we walked along we suddenly saw Urslinka Street. We called in to the convent and met Sr Katrina, the leader of the community there, who invited us back the following Friday and it was a truly warm, welcoming experience…..we spent quite a length of time with them, hearing about their lives as Ursuline Sisters.

Ursuline Sisters have been in Bratislava since c.1657

They have several houses around the area…one in Tarnarva…..another in Modra…and another in Vienna……

During our visit with them they told us about how they had suffered seriously under the communist regime, but remained in the area.
