Ursuline Sisters: Shannonbridge

An esker on the most southern tip of County Roscommon is now the site of the Ursuline Prayer Centre which was officially opened by Bishop Joseph Cassidy on 26th April 1997. It is located within five miles of the ancient Monastic site of Clonmacnois, and near Shannonbridge in the parish of Moore and Clonfad, in the Diocese of Tuam.

The place of prayer near the Celtic community of Saint Ciarain came into being as a result of the vision of Sr Maura Moran. She wished that the general public would find in it peace and rest, where they could experience a renewal of spirit before returning to the market place.

Who we are:

At present there are three sisters here in the community.

  • Sr Maura Moran
  • Sr Marie Connolly
  • Sr Margaret Mary O’ Connell

We offer opportunities for:

- Directed or Private Retreats
- Varied Group Activities e.g. Bereavement Groups/Active Aged/ Confirmation Preparation/ Advent and Lenten Prayer/Centering Prayer Groups
- Other forms of Spiritual Renewal.

The sisters are also involved in the life and activities of the Parishes of Moore and Shannonbridge.
We welcome all to join with us for Morning Prayer at 10.30am each day and again in the evening at 5:30pm when we have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Evening Prayer.

Individuals and groups seeking time apart are welcome at all times.

Our prayer room is open each day and there is a labyrinth in the grounds for those seeking to spend time in prayer walking towards their centre with God.
