...the
dream of Angela Merici ...the Ursuline story
began with one young woman's dream...a dream
that has lived on for over 450 years and
continues to be lived by women across the
globe. Ursuline Sisters of the Irish Union
offer a number of ways for you to join with
them in keeping the dream alive…..
- By
becoming a Sister of the Irish Ursuline
Union.
Ursulines seek to keep the Angela's dream
today alive by living a vowed life in community.
We profess the vows of celibacy, poverty
and obedience. Together we strive to build
up God’s kingdom on earth through our life
and ministry.
Responding
to the invitation is a lifelong process
of growth and formation…
Usually
to begin one enters the Discernment
process – when regular meetings
take place with the Vocations Director.
When
the time is right the candidate enters the
Pre-novitiate stage - where
the candidate is introduced to the Ursuline
way of life, guided in prayer and helped
to reflect on God’s call to her. The length
of time may vary from six months to two
years.
At
the end of pre-novitiate the candidate requests
to enter the Novitiate
– where she concentrates on the meaning
of religious consecration and the vows as
lived in an Ursuline apostolic community.
This usually last two years.
At
the end of the second year the candidate
makes her first profession of vows promising
celibacy, poverty and obedience.
Temporary
profession – vows are made for
three years which are then renewable for
two years.
The
period of temporary profession ends with
the taking of Perpetual vows.
This is the definitive self-offering of
an Ursuline Sister to God. It is her humble
and joyful response to God’s call.
We
offer four other ways for you to become
part of the Ursuline family... .
